Proposal for Regulations to Anticipate the Impact of US Tariffs in TPT Industry

After the application of import tariffs policy by the United States, the Chairman of Indonesia Fiber & Filament Yarn Producer Association (Asosiasi Produsen Serat dan Benang Filament Indonesia - “APSyFi”), Redma Gita, emphasized the importance of the urgent completion of Draft Regulation of the Government (“Draft Regulation”) on the Acceleration of Anti Dumping Security Measures and Domestic Trade Security.

According to him, the key point from this Draft Regulation is very crucial to strengthen the protection of domestic industry towards unhealthy trade practices, such as dumping and the detrimental import surge.

"The Draft Regulation is very important to be completed to facilitate the imposition of Anti Dumping Import Duty (Bea Masuk Anti-Dumping - “BMAD”) and Safeguard. Currently, there are many obstacles because there aren’t any adequate regulations yet,” said Redma to Hukumonline

Redma also pays close attention to President Prabowo’s plan for the relaxation and even withdrawal of Technical Approval (Persetujuan Teknis - “Pertek”) which is currently regulated under the Regulation of the Minister of Trade (“MoT”) No. 8 of 2024 on Import Policy and Provisions (“Regulation 8/2024”).

According to him, the government needs to apply the provisions of Pertek towards any sectors that need to be opened, relaxed, tightened, or completely closed.

"This Regulation 8/2024 has such a wide scope, it needs to be broken down into sectors. That way, policies can be more targeted and do not harm the industrial sector that still needs protection," he said.
