Member of Commission IV of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (“DPR RI”), said that his party is encouraging the Logistics Agency (Badan Urusan Logistik - “Bulog”) to transform into a more capable agency. This is a proposal in the Draft Bill on the Amendment to Law No. 18 of 2012 on Food, as amended by Regulation of the Government in Lieu of Law No. 2 of 2022 on Job Creation (collectively referred to as “Law 18/2012”).
“In the future, Bulog will become a strong institution that can effectively manage food supply chains more efficiently, as well as diversify and substitute food sources,” Firman told Hukumonline.
For example, Bulog will revive sago, cassava, and corn as staple foods. Another proposed transformation is for Bulog to manage fisheries products, maximize the use of the latest technology, and reduce bureaucratic overlap between food-related agencies, thereby making food distribution more effective.
