The government is currently drafting Regulation of the President on Waste Management that accommodates efforts to utilize waste as an energy source in the form of electricity generation and fuel oil (Bahan Bakar Minyak– " BBM ") production.
Director of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (Energi Baru Terbarukan dan Konservasi Energi/EBTKE), Eniya Listiani Dewi, explained that the new Regulation of the President will ease licensing and investment processes for Refuse Derived Fuel (“ RDF ”) technology as an alternative fuel for Coal-Fired Power Plant (Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Uap/PLTU). In addition, this Regulation of the President will facilitate the utilization of biogas through piping systems derived from organic waste buildup.
For the processing of plastic waste into BBM type, Eniya confirmed that the new regulation will outline the mechanism for its sale and purchase by the public. In terms of licensing in this regulation, it will be unified to facilitate and attract investment.
“All the license will be unified—whether it’s for generating electricity, producing bioenergy such as biomass and biogas, or producing BBM,” said Eniya.
