The draft Regulation of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries concerning the Implementation of Raw Material Standards for Fish Processing Units is currently being prepared.
To hukumonline.com, the Director General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fisheries Products at the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Budi Sulistiyo, stated the purpose of the regulation.
"This is one of the efforts to increase competitiveness in terms of processing fishery products. This draft is essentially to regulate the standard requirements for raw materials that must be met by business actors from upstream to downstream," he said.
The government is trying to make it easier for business actors to grow their processing business and emphasize raw material standards. Upstream, it is related to effective cultivation methods. While in the realm of capture fisheries, this regulation will underline the results of the catch on board the ship.
"So that the raw materials produced from the beginning are all controlled. That certainly helps. (Then) the steps for the processors, they have a guarantee of quality raw materials," said Budi. So that quality assurance can be produced optimally and the safety of the results is maintained.
