Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Yuliot Tanjung revealed the latest progress on the draft Decree of the President (Decree) on the formation of the Nuclear Energy Program Implementation Organization (“NEPIO”) which is targeted for completion in the near future. The initiation permit for the Decree has already been submitted to President Prabowo Subianto.
“This Decree on NEPIO has been submitted to the President, so hopefully it will not take too long,” Yuliot told Hukumonline.
Once NEPIO is established and the Draft Bill on New and Renewable Energy (Energi Baru dan Energi Terbarukan - “EBET Draft Bill”) is finalized, the next step will be the formation of the Nuclear Power Plant Council (Majelis Pembangkit Tenaga Nuklir/MPTN). The establishment of NEPIO is a prerequisite for the construction of the Nuclear Power Plant (Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Nuklir - “PLTN”) planned for 2029.
This is in line with the plan to increase power generation capacity by 443 gigawatts (GW) in the Draft National Electricity Master Plan (Rencana Umum Ketenagalistrikan Nasional/RUKN) 2025—2060. with 79% of that coming from new and renewable energy (EBT).
“Just wait and see; it will definitely happen this year,” added Yuliot.
