The Ministry of Agriculture will include specific provisions on the Letter of Approval for the Distribution of Oil Palm Seeds (“SP2BKS”) in the revision of Regulation of the Minister of Agriculture No. 50/Permentan/KB.020/9/2015 on the Production, Certification, Distribution, and Supervision of Plantation Crop Seeds (“Regulation 50/2015”).
“Regarding the letter of approval for the distribution of oil palm seeds, it has already been included in the Draft Regulation of the Minister,” said Laksmi Wijayanti, Chair of the Working Group of Variety Assessment and Seed Quality Control at the Ministry of Agriculture.
Previously, regulations on the SP2BKS were not included in the main body of Regulation 50/2015 but were instead regulated by a separate Decree of the Minister of Agriculture. In this proposed revision, the SP2BKS has been incorporated into the section on Seed Licensing.
The inclusion of SP2BKS in the text of the Regulation of the Minister of Agriculture aims to clarify the procedures for implementation and the mechanism for issuing permits. SP2BKS is one of the four pillars of seed licensing in the draft revision, along with seed production licensing, seed import/export licensing, and variety release licensing.
