Revision of Regulation of the President on Gas Distribution Not Yet Complete, Still Searching for Alternative Operators

Director-General of Oil and Gas (“Migas”) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (“ESDM”), Laode Sulaeman revealed that discussions on the revision of Regulation of the President No. 6 of 2019 on Procurement and Distribution of Natural Gas through Natural-Gas Transmission and/or Distribution Network for Households and Small-scale Customers (“Regulation 6/2019”) have not yet been completed.

“It's not finished yet, it's still being discussed,” Laode told Hukumonline.

Laode explained that the focus of the revision currently under discussion is on the operator of the city gas network (“Jargas”). Alternative operational managers other than State-Owned Enterprises (“BUMN”) in the planned revision of Regulation 6/2019 are needed as a step to accelerate the project and ensure public access to gas.

“So we are looking for other alternatives for its operation besides BUMN,” he explained.
