Member of the National Energy Council      (Dewan Energi Nasional–      “ DEN ”) Agus Puji Prasetyono supports the discourse of Commission XII of the      House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Republik Indonesia–      “ DPR ”) to revive the National Nuclear Energy Agency      (Badan Tenaga Nuklir Nasional–      “ BATAN ”). According to him, the existence of BATAN is quite crucial as a special institution in the operation of Nuclear Power Plants      (Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Nuklir–      “ PLTN ”) which are planned to start operating in 2030.

“I strongly agree because in our study, in order to operate a very large number of PLTN, a special institution is needed,” said Agus to Hukumonline.

A special institution, according to Agus, is needed to carry out activities ranging from fuel supply, business activities, to nuclear energy research. Although it has been merged into the National Research and Innovation Agency      (Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional–      “ BRIN ”), Agus is pushing for the revival of BATAN through the Revision of Law No. 10 of 1997 on      Nuclear Energy (“ UU 10/1997 ”).

In relation with the revision of the Law on Nuclear Energy itself     , DEN plans to resubmit it to the DPR, this is necessary to align with President Prabowo's vision and mission     .

"So now we just need to resubmit it, because this is a new DPR. It also has to be in line with the President's vision and mission again," he explained.
