Riyono, a member of Commission IV of the House of Representatives (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat– “ DPR ”), said there needs to be synchronization in the revision of Law No. 19 of 2013 on the Protection and Empowerment of Farmers (“ Law 19/2013 ”) with regulations of regional governments.
“There must be legislative synchronization. We want agricultural affairs to become mandatory matters, not optional ones,” said Riyono, member of Commission IV of the DPR, to Hukumonline.
Mandatory affairs can be carried out by provincial and regency/city governments. If this policy applies, the derivative regulations can be adjusted to the conditions and targets of each region.
“If Indonesia wants to achieve food self-sufficiency, then the strengthening of agricultural affairs is a must,” he continued
