The National Energy General Plan (“RUEN”) is targeted for completion in April 2026. This document was prepared as a derivative of Regulation of the Government No. 40 of 2025 (“Regulation 40/2025”) on National Energy Policy (“KEN”). The RUEN serves as a guideline for national energy planning as well as a reference for regional governments in drafting Regional Energy General Plans (“RUED”).
“(The drafting) is currently ongoing and hopefully it will be completed in April,” said Yunus Saefulhak, Head of the Energy Policy and Proceedings Facilitation Bureau of the Secretariat-General of the National Energy Council (“DEN”).
Yunus explained that the latest KEN is aimed at strengthening the sustainable management and utilization of national energy resources. One of its main focuses is to maximize the potential of new and renewable energy (EBT) spread across various regions.
In addition to EBT, the RUEN also encourages the use of clean and environmentally friendly technologies in the national energy system. Furthermore, the RUEN also includes the use of new energy sources such as nuclear, hydrogen, and ammonia as part of the national energy mix going forward.
