The Indonesian Shipping Services Association (Asosiasi Perusahaan Jasa Pengiriman Indonesia/ASPERINDO) considers it necessary to include consumer provisions in the Draft Bill (“CP Draft Bill”) Amendment to Law No. 8 of 1999 on Consumer Protection (“Law 8/1999”).
ASPERINDO Chairman Mohammad Feriadi Soeprapto views shipping services as consumers of both airlines and toll road operators in providing services to consumers.
“We, as operators, also act as operators for airline operators or other operators currently supporting the logistics business,” Feriadi told Hukumonline.
Feri explained that the purpose of this provision is to ensure legal certainty in business transactions, avoid legal protection disparities, and prevent large businesses from dominating small businesses as consumers.
“So, if any complaints arise, we can say that it’s not solely our fault. Couriers often become the target of consumer complaints,” he added.
