The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (“ KKP ”) requires specific regulations on the conversion of marine and land spatial functions. The Secretary General of the KKP, Rudy Heriyanto, stated that synergy among ministries, institutions, and regional governments is necessary to formulate such regulations.
“This is intended to harmonize marine and land spatial planning policies so that overlapping permits do not occur from upstream to downstream,” said Rudy.
The current licensing policy for spatial conversion, which is held by several ministries, is considered confusing for business actors and the public. In addition, this regulation is also intended to strengthen law enforcement processes so that actions against violations can be carried out firmly and consistently.
The KKP is opening a space for academics and civil society to provide input during the discussion process. “So that the resulting policy is evidence-based and ensures ecosystem protection,” said Rudy.
