The Chairperson of the Indonesian Surveyors Association, Muchammad Masykur, has proposed the establishment of Surveyors Law (“ Draft Bill on Surveyors ”) to unify and standardize the surveying profession in Indonesia. Similar to the medical profession, this regulation would serve as a legal umbrella for legitimate and certified surveyors, especially for high-risk work.
“We hope to propose the Draft Bill on Surveyorseither this year or possibly next year,” he told Hukumonline.
Currently, according to Masykur, anyone can perform measurements. However, he added, legal measurements that have an impact on the public must be conducted by competent surveyors.
Currently, the surveying profession is regulated by the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency, the Geospatial Information Agency, the Ministry of Public Works, the Ministry of Forestry, and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
Each agency has its own regulations and certification requirements, even though the surveyors working are often the same individuals. This results in overlapping regulations and makes the certification process inefficient. “There should be a national standard for surveying services,” concluded Masykur.
