The Indonesian Textile Association (Asosiasi Pertekstilan Indonesia - “API”) hopes that the development of the textile and textile product (“TPT”) industry can be promoted as a National Strategic Project (Proyek Strategis Nasional - “PSN”). API Deputy Chair Anne Patricia Sutanto explained that the TPT industry is in line with Indonesia’s current demographic and workforce education conditions.
Anne believes that the inclusion of the TPT industry in the PSN will enhance national economic resilience and improve the competitiveness of TPT products against those from other countries.
“If it is included (in the PSN), we believe our competitiveness will also improve, and job opportunities will grow naturally,” Anne told Hukumonline.
Additionally, Anne hopes the Government and the House of Representatives (“DPR”) will swiftly conclude international trade negotiations with the European Union and Canada to open broader market opportunities. This would also mitigate the impact of reciprocal tariffs imposed by the United States.
“We also need the DPR to assist us in finalizing those (trade negotiations) as soon as possible. This could become one of the country’s objectives to diversify beyond the United States,” she added.
