The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral- “ ESDM ”) and Commission XII of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat - “ DPR ”) have approved the Draft Regulation of the Government (Rancangan Peraturan Pemerintah- “ RPP ”) on the National Energy Policy (Kebijakan Energi Nasional- “KEN”), after aligning it with President Prabowo's 8% economic growth vision-mission.
Minister of ESDM, Bahlil Lahadalia explained that the adjustment of RPP KEN to the economic growth assumption did not change the substance that had been agreed upon previously, particularly regarding New and Renewable Energy (Energi Baru dan Terbarukan- “ EBT ”).
“We have considered everything including renewable energy. We have synchronized it. This is solely in order to achieve net zero emission by 2060,” Bahlil said at the DPR Building.
To reduce dependence on fossil energy, the RPP KEN stipulates a target for EBT share of 19% - 23% in 2030 and 70% -72% in 2060. Adjusted to the assumption of 8% economic growth, the fossil energy mix, namely coal, remains the majority at 40.7% in 2030. Meanwhile, in 2060, the majority of energy mix will be dominated by EBT, particularly solar power at 32%.
Meanwhile, the reduction of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission levels under RPP KEN is 1184 million tons CO2e in 2030, 1086 million tons CO2e in 2040, 744 million tons CO2e in 2050 and 129 million tons CO2e in 2060.
