The House of Representatives Proposes the Establishment of a Road Preservation Fund Agency

The House of Representatives is discussing a Draft Law on Amendment to Law No. 22 of 2009 (“Law LLAJ”) on Traffic and Road Transportation(“Draft Law LLAJ”). One of the topics under discussion is the establishment of a new institution.

"Perhaps the Road Safety Agency and the Road Preservation Fund Agency can be consolidated into one entity, because many parties are involved,” said Lasarus, Chair of Commission V of the House of Representatives, to Hukumonline.

Parties involved in traffic and road transportation include the Indonesian National Police (Polri) as law enforcement; the Ministry of Public Works responsible for planning, constructing, and maintaining national roads; the Ministry of Transportation overseeing traffic regulations; and the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs as a supervisor of online motorcycle taxi applicators (evaluating business, service tariffs, and driver complaints).

The agency may consolidate all traffic-related activities so that no party escapes responsibility if problems arise. Commission V, said Lasarus, will invite relevant parties to discuss the proposed regulatory framework.
