The government plans to establish a National Carbon Trading Roadmap to achieve the Net-Zero Emission commitment by 2060.
"A national Carbon Trading Roadmap will be established. We must ensure that our actions are marketable. Therefore, a roadmap must be prepared," said Muhammad Yusuf, the Director of Coastal and Small Island Utilization at the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), to hukumonline.com.
He will propose blue carbon—carbon stored and absorbed by coastal and marine ecosystems such as mangroves, salt marshes, seagrass—as a future carbon trading commodity. Currently, the roadmap is under the supervision of the Minister of Environment.
If the roadmap is completed and implemented, Yusuf stated that each relevant agency may issue a Decree of the Minister or Regulation of the Minister as implementing regulations.
